Every great sauce company needs quality control.
Ours just happens to be four years old.
Miss Watson’s Sauce Inspector came to be very naturally, thanks to one curious little boy who really, really wanted to know what was going into our sauce.
This boy loves sauce. Ketchup-style sauce, dipping sauce, sweet and sour sauce — if there is something to dip, he is interested.
So when we told him our Ketchup Alternative had no tomatoes, he stopped everything.
“WHAT?!”
Then came the accusation.
“You’re lying!”
We told him, “Nope. We are telling the truth. No tomatoes. No nightshades.”
This, apparently, was shocking news in the world of four-year-old sauce lover.
From there, he became very interested in the development of our Sweet and Sour Sauce. When we told him, “There are NO nightshades in this sauce either,” he gave me the same wide-eyed response:
“WHAT?! Are you serious?!”
Very serious, sir. Very serious.
We have been teaching him to read labels and understand the importance of knowing what is in the food you eat. He cannot read every word yet, but he knows enough to start asking questions — and he definitely knows what Red 40 is. Around here, Red 40 is not on his “approved ingredients” list.
What he does approve of?
The ingredients in Miss Watson’s sauces.
He loves checking them, questioning them, tasting them, and giving his very honest four-year-old feedback.
And that is how Miss Watson’s Sauce Inspector was born: one curious boy, one suspicious “WHAT?!”, and a whole lot of sauce.
